This
large 5ft x 10ft dho-gazza has 4" x 4" mesh and it's the preferred mesh
size for most falconers and raptor researchers and is the perfect size
for most trapping situations from merlins to peregrine falcons. It's
large enough for most trapping situations and yet small and portable
enough to go anywhere and allows for a quick set up.
The
net hangs square so when looking at a fully erected net, the net has
horizontal and vertical lines. This seems to be the preferred net
hanging method for most people as well. With a square hanging net and
the fine thread size makes it almost invisible from the distance
especially when setup so that there are trees or some sort of vegetation
in the background so the approaching hawk could not detect the net.
From
personal trapping experience of over 40 years, one thing I observed is
that square hanging nets appear to be less detectable to hawks than the
diamond hanging option. This is only happening on sunny days and when
the hawks are coming in facing the sun. Meaning the trap is between the
hawk and the sun so there may be some glare on the netting. This is
usually the case for my location because most of the hawks coming in to
the trap are heading south so they usually are looking into the sun. In
my opinion, I think horizontal and vertical lines (square hanging net)
may be less noticeable than diagonal (diamond hanging net) lines.
Note: The poles shown on these images are only for
temporary set up. The poles shipped with the trap are the ones broken
down on the table.
This dho-gazza comes completely assembled and ready for use.
